Components of Satellite Communication System

component of satellite communication systems in general, a satellite communication system can be divided into 2 parts..

The first part of the ground segment and its component parts which are support tools that are in earth stations. This section usually consists of: satellite modem, out door unit (RF-Unit), and a satellite dish. in establishing gruond segment, there are a few things to note. among others:
  • direction of transmission to the satellite to be used, should not be obstructed. when blocked by trees, buildings, or other, signals emitted certainly can not reach the satellite in space.
  • transmit power, this is usually influenced by the power of the RF units and antenna gain.

The second part of the space segment, this section is the satellite itself. satellite has several characteristics, for example:
  • frequency bands: C-Band, Extended C-Band, Ku-Band
  • coverage: work according to the satellite coverage, so only the areas that are in range can receive signals from satellites.
  • Power: every transponder on the satellite has received transmite gain and gain, therefore each user must adjust transmite power for satellites to work properly.

What is VSAT ?

This is an early article about VSAT. I will try to put forward through this following a few basic questions.

What is VSAT ?
VSAT stands for Very Small Aparture Terminal, a satellite communications system that uses the device diameter parabolic antenna is very small, namely about 1.8 mtr to 3.8 mtr. in the development, VSAT is used for all personal communication that uses satellite as a medium of communication, either using a small dish antenna and large sizes.

What is Satellite?
satellite is a medium of communication (repeaters) are placed in space, it is intended for a large area to cover. The main function of the satellite is to receive signals from earth stations and send it back to earth.

Why use VSAT?

as we know our country (Indonesia) is a country composed of islands, where the distance and the seas separating one island to another. while the need for equitable distribution of course information to the area needed to maintain the integration of the country. therefore the easiest means of communication is to utilize the satellite as a medium of communication to realize the integration of such information. all the barriers of distance, sea, mountains and forests that lie between regions separated mainly in remote areas, are not an obstacle anymore.

Who uses VSAT?

VSAT very useful as a medium of communication, to the Internet, voice (gsm), video confrence, and data transmission. besides the government and the ISP, VSAT is also widely used by bank, the military, television, and also cellular provider
